Monogramme SAPIR

Our story

The full story

We are Eva and Emanuel Levy, and SAPIR is a house of antique, vintage and collectible jewelry in Paris.

We are collectors. Our selection has its obsessions, its convictions, its centrepieces, and every jewel in it is one we would have liked never to let go.

But we are also dealers. Strictly speaking, a dealer is someone who trades; in our field, the word covers a much wider reality. The dealer is perpetually searching, always on the lookout for the next object, and watches his jewels leave with a touch of bitterness. He feeds on the beauty of what passes through his hands, knows he is privileged, yet sometimes experiences his profession as a burden, a calling. He believes he has “lost the fire”, only to find it again. A dealer never stops, never retires, pretends to take holidays when the market pauses and counts the days until it starts again.

Nothing destined us for this profession. Eva studied mathematics at Dauphine before entering ESSEC, then worked in venture capital and in start-ups. Emanuel went to business school, in Tours and then in Reims. He also studied art history, before becoming an organisational consultant. We started again from scratch: gemmology at HRD Antwerp and at the École Boulle, then the auction rooms. They remain the best school for the eye.

SAPIR is a family business, and first of all that of a couple. Working as two means agreeing on a jewel as on everything else. It is a challenge, but above all a privilege whose rarity we appreciate.

Our name, SAPIR, is an anagram of Paris and the Hebrew word for sapphire. Our two sons have drawn their own conclusions: any jewel with a touch of blue in it is theirs by right.

Every antique jewel arrives with a story, and those who entrust it to us give us a little of their own. What we love most is passing it on in turn, to seasoned collectors and newcomers alike. Over the years, these exchanges have built bonds of trust; to all those who grant us theirs, thank you.

We welcome you by appointment in the Passage Molière, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris. By telephone, in writing or on social media, we will always be happy to hear from you.
